Mumbai rains: Train services suspended; BMC declares holiday for all offices

Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted generally cloudy sky with heavy showers in Mumbai on Wednesday after heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai on Tuesday night. The heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in many areas of the city including Sion, Kings Circle, Lower Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Mahim and more.

Also, lifeline of Mumbai, the local trains were disrupted amid the heavy rains. Due to heavy rains, local services were suspended.

BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) in a tweet said, "Mumbaikars, train services on Central and Harbour lines have been suspended due to waterlogging following the heavy rainfall yesterday. However, Western Railway is functioning as usual."

Suburban services on Central Railway was suspended between CSMT-Thane/CSMT-Vashi due to waterlogging at Sion-Kurla, Chunabhatti-Kurla and Masjid. Also, the shuttle Services are running between Thane-Kalyan and beyond and Vashi and Panvel, CPRO CR Maharashtra said, news agency ANI said.

The Western Railway PRO has stated that suburban local services between Andheri and Virar have been rescheduled. The waterlogging between Churchgate and Andheri has led the suspension.

Meanwhile, BMC has declared a holiday for all private and government offices, except emergency services, after major waterlogging and heavy rainfall in multiple parts of the city. The Commissioner has urged people to come out of their homes only if necessary.

MORE RAINS TO HIT MUMBAI, THANE

The weather bureau has forecasted that Mumbai and Thane regions, along with Palghar and Raigad may witness heavy rainfall today. IMD has said heavy rainfall will continue to lash Mumbai. Western suburbs are the worst-affected with 273 mm rainfall till 5:30 am on Wednesday.
