Mumbai: Heavy rains continue in Mumbai and its neighbouring cities Saturday and Sunday.

A yellow alert, signifying heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places has been issued for parts of, Thane, Raigad, Mumbai for Sunday. This comes a day after Mumbai and Thane received heavy rains on Saturday. Meanwhile, an orange alert was issued for Palghar district. The yellow warning by the IMD states 'updated' whereas orange warning says authorities should be prepared and the red warning specifies take action.

The heavy rains also caused water-logging and incidents of trees uprooting and falling in Mumbai has resulted in huge traffic jams.

On Saturday, IMD said, the Colaba weather station in reported 74.6 mm rainfall during 12 hours whereas, the Santacruz station recorded 132.2 mm rainfall.

Mumbai IMD Deputy Director General K S Hosalikar in his tweet said,"Mumbai, NM (Navi Mumbai), Thane; very intense spells of RF (rainfall) last 12 hrs leading to Very heavy (120-200 mm) to Extremely heavy RF (>200 mm) so far. Parts of Thane recd so far more than 200 mm, Boriwali side 170 mm. City so far 70 - 80 mm. Contrast to what happened yesterday. Still more ahead. TC.”

The disaster management team of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that water-logging was reported in low-lying areas of the city such as Dadar, Sion and Milan Subway.

The Mumbai Police has guided people not to venture out of their homes. The Mumbai police on its official Twitter handle earlier said, "All citizens are advised to remain indoors, not venture out unnecessarily and take necessary precautions.”

HEAVY RAINS IN KONKAN

The Alibaug weather station in the Raigad district recorded 87.4 mm rainfall from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Saturday. Harnai in coastal Ratnagiri district also recorded 52.6 mm rainfall during the period, while the Ratnagiri city weather station reported 54.1 mm rains.
