Mumbai rains: Heavy rainfall in city; IMD predicts more showers in Konkan

Mumbai: Mumbai has been pounded by continuous rain since Wednesday. The weather department has issued an alert of heavy rain in the next 24 hours in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai, along with Thane, Palghar. Also, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to happen at isolated places in, Ratnagiri, Raigad and Sindhudurg today.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast said, ''Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg today.'' An IMD official told news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) that, a warning for very heavy rainfall has been issued for Raigad, Nashik and Pune too. Other parts in the state will also report light to moderate showers, he added.

Meanwhile. non-stop heavy rains and strong winds were reported in Mumbai and adjoining areas on Wednesday. Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also had a word with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray about the dominant situation in the financial capital and surrounding areas due to heavy rains and guaranteed all possible support, the Prime Minister's Office said. PM Modi assured Thackeray all possible support, it said.

Also, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) last week said the CM of the state apprised Modi of steps being taken to protect people during the heavy rains.
