Mumbai: Police arrest four for allegedly raping a 44-year-old woman

Mumbai: A 44-year-old woman has been allegedly raped in Makhurd area of Mumbai, the police have arrested four men involved in the case. According to police officials, on June 24, the victim was invited by one of the accused men, Abdul Jilani Sheikh at his friend’s house to celebrate his kid’s birthday.

During the birthday celebrations, Sheikh mixed some intoxicated liquid in the woman’s drink and then raped her along with his three other friends present at the birthday party. After this, the accused hired a taxi and dropped off the woman at her house.

On the following day, the woman was experiencing pain in her whole body and also observed some marks on it. After three days, the woman’s health condition deteriorated, which worried her, and she was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. According to the police, the victim came to know about her gang rape while she was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The police have arrested the four accused men and filed a case against them. The culprits have been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376(D) and 328 for allegedly raping a woman.

“Based on the statement of the victim, we have registered a case of gang rape,” stated police inspector, Kishor Kharat who is in charge of the Mankhurd police station.

“We have arrested the four accused and produced them in the court,” Mr Kharat added.

The court had advised dispatching the four accused men to police custody till July 8, he further said.
