Mumbai: Man cuts birthday cake with a sword, arrested for flouting lockdown norms

A 25-year-old man was arrested by Mumbai Police for cutting his birthday cake with a sword and for flouting social distancing

Mumbai: A 25-year-old man from Mumbai, who was seen cutting 25 birthday cakes with a sword, was arrested for breaching the social distancing norms. 

Haris Khan, a 25-year-old was arrested by the Mumbai Police for flouting lockdown and social distancing norms issued by the Maharashtra Government during his birthday party on Monday.

According to the Police, Khan has called his friends over to his residence’s terrace in Bandra West for his birthday celebration on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

This celebration was captured by his friends and a video was posted on social media, this video came across social activist Mohsin Shaikh, who reported it to the police.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Hemant Phad, assistant police inspector (API), Bandra police station said, “We have recovered the sword which was used for the cake cutting. We will also take appropriate actions against others who were present at the party.”

Khan and the others present in the celebration are now booked under several relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. 

"They have been booked under Sections 188, 269 and 34 of the of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) while Khan has also been booked under Arms Act," Nikhil Kapse, a senior officer of Bandra police told ANI. Several media report state that the accused has committed crimes and has a few cases registered against him.
