Many Mumbai voters opted for NOTA in 2019 LS elections
755 and 3,340 postal NOTA votes were polled in Palghar and Gadchiroli respectively
Mumbai: This Lok Sabha election, many voters from Mumbai opted for NOTA or ‘None of Above’ option in the electronic voting machines. In Mumbai, 81,195 voters opted for NOTA, wherein 2014, 52,962 voters had opted for NOTA.
The highest number of voters who opted for NOTA was in Palghar with 29,463 NOTA votes. Out of the total 12,01,941 votes, it accounted for 2.45 per cent of all polled votes, followed by the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli-Chimur with 24,418 opting for NOTA accounting for 2.15 per cent of the total votes.
Interestingly, 755 and 3,340 postal NOTA votes were polled in Palghar and Gadchiroli respectively.
In Mumbai, 81,195 voters exercised the NOTA option in all six constituencies. The highest number of NOTA votes in the North West Mumbai were 17,570, where Shiv Sena’s Gajanan Kirtikar defeated Congress’ Sanjay Nirupam. The South Mumbai, known as elite constituency stood on second rank, where 15,059 voters cast NOTA. In this constituency, Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant defeated Milind Deora of Congress.
Mumbai South Central registered 13,834 NOTA votes, followed by Mumbai North East with 12,446; Mumbai North with11,663 and Mumbai North Central with 10, 603 NOTA votes.
