Man attempts suicide in Mantralaya

MUMBAI: A suicide attempt near Mantralaya has become a trend to catch attention nowadays, after Dharma Patil a farmer from Dhule, a 32-year-old man set himself on fire. On Wednesday, Avinash Shete tried to commit suicide at the garden gate of the Mantralaya.

Shete is a resident of Nevase in Ahmednagar district, and was apparently upset over failing the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination.

He had taken the MPSC examination in 2013 for the post of assistant in Agriculture Department but failed. In frustration, he visited the Mantralaya to get the job. 

He used to frequently go to the Agriculture Department in Mantralaya to meet officials, claiming he had written all the answers in his paper and was sure of clearing it. 

On Wednesday he came to the Mantralaya to see officials from the Agricultural Department, but instead of entering the Mantralaya premises he tried to set himself on fire by pouring kerosene. However, the police caught him before he could immolate himself.

Meanwhile, Agricultural Minister Pandurang Fundkar assured him that all his examination papers would be rechecked. Fundkar said, "In frustration of not getting a job, he took the step. But the government will try to help him out."
