Malik accuses tourism minister of acquiring MTDC resort illegally

MUMBAI: NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik alleged that Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal has illegally grabbed the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) resort at Tornamal.

"Toranmal Hill Resort Company has grabbed the entire MTDC resort at Toranmal hill station at Nandurbar. Rawal should be sacked from the Cabinet over his illegal activity," Malik demanded.

According to Malik, Rawal is the director of this company, which has been blacklisted by company affairs ministry over black money transactions after demonetisation. But surprisingly, this company is still functioning and accepting payments.

However, Rawal denied the charges saying Malik's charges are politically motivated. "I was never the director of the company. JJ Rawal was a director of the company and I have no relation with the company," said Rawal.

"MTDC gave Toranmal hill resort to the company from 1991. Earlier it was given on rent of Rs 15,000 per month and later at Rs 27,000 in 2001. But, this company had not paid it since 2001," said Malik.

"We searched details of Toranmal Hill Resort Private Limited on the Registrar of Company's website, but nothing was mentioned there. Then we came to know about the land purchased by the same company in Dondaicha village of Sindhkheda tehsil, Dhule district. The company has bought 5 acre land there. Jaykumar Rawal's name is mentioned as director of the company on 7/12 extract," said Malik.

"After demonetisation, 2 lakh shell companies are unlisted by company affairs ministry. The Toranmal Private Limited is one of those companies. This is clearly mentioned on the website," said Malik.
