Maharashtra: Lockdown to continue after September 1?

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has hinted that the statewide lockdown will continue after September 1. The Chief Minister who was in Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali and Navi Mumbai to review the COVID-19 situation hinted that the lockdown will not be lifted entirely.

He stated that relaxations have been given on the lockdown norms but the lockdown will remain imposed after September 1 on the backdrop of rising COVID-19 cases in the state. He also heaped praise on the COVID frontline warriors for controlling the spread of coronavirus in the MMR region.

The Chief Minister informed that though some states in the country hurriedly lifted the complete lockdown, Maharashtra will not impose complete lockdown. Some restrictions cannot be relaxed unless they are convinced.

The threat of novel virus persists, the CM had said earlier and added that he does not want a second wave of the contagion to make the rounds in the state. Thackeray recently said that ongoing days are vital for the state’s fight against the contagion. The state is anticipating a rise in coronavirus cases with the increased movement of people during festivals, including Ganesh Festival and Muharram.

The Maharashtra government in July extended the lockdown in the state till August 31. Thackeray had clearly instructed that those who hurriedly lifted the lockdown had to impose it again.

Lockdown rules are being relaxed in the state from June, in the state’s ‘Mission Begin Again’.
