While the Maharashtra government has already started planning to start the schools by June, Centre seems to be planning to start the school in a zone-wise manner after July

While the Maharashtra government has already started planning to start the schools by June, Centre seems to be planning to start the school in a zone-wise manner from July. According to the new guidelines, schools, colleges, training organisations and private tuition classes will re-open only in July after the discussion with parents and institutions.

Therefore, after planning of everything, educational institutions may re-open only after the 15th of August. As per the reports schools will open zone-wise, with only 30 per cent of the students. Also, only students from class 8 to 12 will be allowed to attend the classes.

Earlier the Education Department, planned to re-open schools by 15th June in green zones but as it faced intense resistance, the option of starting new academic year through online, Doordarshan, Prasar Bharati mediums were considered. But, due to lack of basic infrastructure, this option is also facing opposition.

Meanwhile, the Centre government has announced the extension of lockdown till 30th June. In lockdown 5.0, the schools, colleges and other educational institutions are going to remain closed.

In July, the State government is expected to discuss the matter with parents, educational institutions and teachers’ associations before announcing the final decision. Also, before starting the schools the government will publish standard operating procedures (SOP) considering the social distancing, hygiene and security of students.

Maharashtra is the worst-hit state due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The government authorities will also have to decide re-opening of schools, colleges, and other educational institutions for students residing in the containment zone in July.

Also, the decision for the reopening of colleges is pending.

Points to be considered while starting educational institutions in containment zones:

-Social Distancing

-Hygiene

-Mental health support

- Educating students about solutions to stop the viruses

-Students and teachers’ security
