Maharashtra: Inter-district train travel resumes; special trains for JEE, NEET exams

Maharashtra government has allowed the resumption of inter-district train services

Mumbai: With the central government in its order gave some relaxations on the lockdown, the Maharashtra government also allowed resumption of inter-state movement of passengers via trains.

The inter-district train services will be permitted in Passenger Reservation System (PRS), the Central Railway notification stated. Travellers can now book tickets online. Amid the coronavirus outbreak in Maharashtra, the state government extended the lockdown till 30 September but also declared multiple relaxations. The government, however, declared new guidelines for 'Unlock 4' under "Mission Begin Again" for resuming number of activities in areas outside the containment zones.

TOI quoted a CR official as saying, “The unlock guidelines issued by the state government have permitted inter-district travel. Hence, we have allowed train travel and booking of tickets for destinations within Maharashtra from September 2.”

Currently, 230 special trains are ferried by the Indian Railways in wake of coronavirus crisis and it is planning to further comfort the trip of passengers by plying more trains on the track.


Indian Railways have extended their support for students by offering Special Trains for JEE, NEET, NDA Exam 2020 in this month. The special trains would run for aspirants of Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A pair of eight special intercity trains will ply from September 4 to September 15 in Bihar and 4 special trains in Rajasthan and 5 special trains from September 3 to September 30 in Uttar Pradesh.
