Maharashtra government has issued guidelines for reopening of physical schools and online classes

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced the beginning of the new academic year for state board schools with online classes. He also allowed the physical reopening of schools from July in rural areas and those located at a distance from cities that haven’t reported a single coronavirus case over a month.

The government approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools which were submitted earlier by the education department. CM Uddhav Thackeray approved the SOPs with state Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad.

Schools should begin online admissions via Google forms, hold online meetings with the school management committee (SMC), create e-content and endorse Diksha app. Check out the guidelines.

  • School teachers have been asked to contact at least 10 parents each day to review students’ progress.
  • Teachers have been advised to encourage students to self-learn and get their queries resolved later
  • Classes 3-5 have been permitted screen-time of one hour, classes 5-8 for two hours and classes 9-12 for three hours.
  • Classes 9-12 can restart from July whereas classes 6-8 in August and classes 3-5 in September. On the other hand, class 11 will be restarted after the declaration of SSC results and following admissions.
  • Students of classes 1-2 have been asked to study at home via educational programmes.
  • When schools will be re-opened physically, only one student can sit on one bench. Parents should drop their children to avoid crowding in school buses or vans.
  • Groceries will be home-delivered from July 1 for the students who have admission under the mid-day meal scheme.
  • Physical reopening is only allowed in rural areas thus, Gram Panchayats have been asked to sanitise schools before reopening.
  • Municipal corporations have been directed to work on creating WiFi facilities. They have also been ordered to search if pre-loaded SD (Secure Digital) cards, tabs can be given to students, keeping online education in mind.
  • The date of physical reopening of the schools that fall under containment zones is not declared yet.
