Maharashtra cops make State proud

PUNE: The Maharashtra Police for the first time won the champions trophy at 62nd All India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM) held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The ll India Police Duty Meet is being organised since 1953 with the aim to improve standards of professional performance in police forces. It covers almost all aspects of investigation of crime, especially those related with scientific and technical aid to investigation.

The meet also provides an opportunity to police forces coming from all over the country to exchange their problems, views and best practices for investigation.

The 62nd edition of AIPDM was held from July 16 to 20 and had participants from 22 state police units and seven central forces in six categories like Scientific Aid to Investigation, Forensic Sciences, Computer Proficiency, Police Videography and Photography, Anti Sabotage Checks including search operations. A 40-member team from Maharashtra police emerged overall winners with five gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

The selection process had begun with the Maharashtra State Police Duty Meet held in October and November last year. The medal winners in the state-level competition were given special training by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Maharashtra Intelligence Academy (MIA) in Pune. The final team was selected for the AIPDM. Superintendent of Police Kalpana Baravkar and Additional SP Dr Vaishali Kadukar led the team as manager and assistant manager respectively. 

The winners are Assistant Police Inspector Amol Pawar, Police Inspector Madhukar Geete, who bagged two medals, Assistant Police Inspector Rahul Khatavkar, Assistant Sub Inspector Vijay Kumbhar, constables Rakhi Khawale, Atul Jadhav, Iqbal Shaikh,   Hanumant Bhosale, Sameer Bendgude, Anil Salunkhe and Amol Gawali. Along with the General Championship Trophy, the team also bagged the Hard Line Trophy for Scientific Aid to Investigation and Runner-Up Trophy for Videography.
