LokSabha 2019: Maha to have woman-only voting centres

Mumbai: After, directives from the Election Commission of India, there will be woman administered voting centre in each electoral constituency across the State. This centre would be managed only by the women. All staff including police will be ladies at these centres, which is also called ‘Sakhi Voting Centre’.

There will be one voting centre, that will be fully managed by woman staff and from election officer to the police official, all will be ladies. As a part of gender equality and woman’s active participation in the electoral process, this voting centre will be started in different constituencies.

These voting centres will be decorated with ‘rangoli’. Though the Election Commission has strictly ordered not to use colours that resembles any political party’s colour, these centres have been exempted from the directives. According to the census, the percentage of woman voters has increased to 911 from 889 compared to 2014 elections. These centres will help increase the woman’s participation in the election process.
