Government increases compensation amount to flood-affected people in State

MUMBAI: The State government on Wednesday increased the amount of compensation to the recent flood-affected victims. The compensation has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 to those in rural areas and Rs 15,000 to those in urban areas. 

The compensation will apply to those who have been affected post July 26, 2019 and have been stranded for more than two nights.  

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday reviewed the flood situation in the State and directed all collectors and concerned authorities and agencies to be prepared to provide drinking water and health services. He further directed the authorities to restore the electricity connection at the earliest. 

“Relief camps for the flood-affected people should be started on an urgent basis and they should be provided with food and other necessary facilities,” the CM said.

While speaking to the district collectors of Kolhapur, Nashik, Sangli, Satara, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, Fadnavis said that if the district collectors have information about the flooding and forecast of heavy rains, the same should be shared with the railways.

Two hundred and four villages in Kolhapur district have been affected due to floods and 11,000 people have been shifted to a safe place. While 53,000 people have been shifted from Palus and Valwa talukas of Sangli district. 

Mangalvedha and Malshiras in Solapur district are also facing floods. Two thousand people from Pandharpur have been shifted. 

In Pune city and district, 64 villages have been affected and 3,343 people have been provided help. All dams in Pune district have been filled up to the capacity.

In Raigad district, the average rainfall is about 105 mm and around 3,000 people have been shifted. All dams in Ratnagiri district are also 100 per cent full and 13 villages have been affected.

The compensation has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 to those in rural areas and Rs 15,000 to those in urban areas. The compensation will apply to those who have been affected post July 26, 2019.
