Family, party deny rumours about Pankaja quitting

MUMBAI: Though BJP leader Pankaja Munde's Facebook post was interpreted in a way that she is going to quit the party, which created panic in the BJP camp, the party and family of Pankaja has denied that she will be leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Replying to Sakal Times' query, BJP MP Poonam Mahajan, who is also Pankaja's cousin, said that there was no question of Pankaja leaving the BJP.

Immediately after the rumours spread on social media, BJP State President Chandrakant Patil came forward to do a little damage control and announced that Pankaja is not leaving the party.

Senior BJP leader and former minister Pankaja Munde hinted that all is not well in the State unit and she may take some political decision.

She did not tweet anything since November 28, where she congratulated Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and wished him the very best for the future.

On Sunday, in a Facebook post, she invited her followers to Gopinathgad (a memorial of late Gopinath Munde in Beed) on December 12 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of her late father. "I need time for some 8-10 days to communicate with myself. What to do next? Which path to be taken? What can we give people? What is our strength? What are the expectations of the people? After thinking over this, I will come before you on December 12," she said in the Facebook post.

After her post, social media was abuzz with messages that Pankaja Munde might leave the BJP and join Shiv Sena or Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP).

BJP State President Chandrakant Patil refuted all the claims by saying all the reports are baseless.

"We had a talk with Munde and she is not going anywhere, she is with us," said Patil.

Former minister and BJP leader Vinod Tawde also refuted the speculations. "As she posted something about herself, it doesn't mean she is leaving the party. She wants to speak to her and Gopinath Munde's followers and she appealed to them through Facebook," said Tawde.
