Deora exposes infighting in Mumbai Congress unit

MUMBAI: Infighting in Mumbai Congress has been exposed once again as former Member of Parliament Milind Deora expressed his displeasure over the functioning of the Mumbai Congress unit leader.

He further appealed to party chief Rahul Gandhi that the Mumbai Congress cannot become a cricket pitch for sectarian politics, with leaders pitted against one other. In a series of tweets from his official account he explained his stance.

Milind Deora, son of ex-minister and senior Congress leader Murali Deora, tweeted, “Congress is leading a powerful, united campaign across India. Infighting within the party cannot be accepted and it should not be allowed to threaten our base in Mumbai. I appeal to all Congress leaders in Mumbai to unite as a team. We owe this much to our party and to the Congress President.” In another tweet, Deora said, “I’m disappointed with what is happening in Mumbai Congress. The party is aware of my stance on fighting the Lok Sabha elections. However, I have full faith in our central leadership and its commitment to our party’s ideology and principles. Especially in Mumbai, where the Congress was born.”

His series of tweets continued further, explaining his stance in the infighting in the Mumbai Congress unit.

“In a city like Mumbai, which is our economic and cultural capital, we need to bring people together. The Mumbai Congress cannot become a cricket pitch for sectarian politics, with leaders pitted against one another,” he further said.

When contacted, he said that he had not written any letter to party President Rahul Gandhi.

“I expressed myself on tweeter. Those are my feelings with the party. I am a loyal and dedicated party worker. Whatever responsibility will be given by the high command, I will accept it in future,” he said.
