Congress, NCP discussing seat-sharing pact: Jayant Patil

PUNE: In the background of the upcoming State Assembly elections, a  decision on seat-sharing by the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is still to be taken. NCP State President Jayant Patil said that both parties have not finalised the seats. “There is unanimity on a few seats. We are working on other seats,” he said.

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar conducted a screening committee meeting in  Pune at which Patil was present.

He said, “Both parties are discussing seat-sharing for State Assembly polls. We discussed 220 out of total 288 seats. In the coming days, both parties will conduct another meeting.”

Regarding the statement of CM Fadnavis that next leader of opposition will be from Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), Patil said, “CM Fadnavis is trying to divide votes of Congress and NCP so that BJP will win. He wants to support VBA so that VBA will get more votes. The chief minister  is trying to help VBA in different ways.”

He rejected speculation that Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosale and Vijaysingh Mohite Patil will join the BJP. He said, “Both leaders are in NCP. Udayanraje has not resigned. Mohite hasn’t given his resignation yet.”

Regarding the Indapur Assembly seat, Patil said, “Both parties’ senior leader will take the final decision.”
