College students collect relief material for Gadchiroli district

Pune: Students from the city colleges have come together to collect relief material for the flood-affected Bhamragad tehsil of the Gadchiroli district.

The students launched a campaign through WhatsApp groups and were able to collect Rs 20,000 from individual donors, in addition to clothes, bedsheets, garments for children etc.

Starting from July, flooded Perlkota river in Bhamragad washed away many villages where the communication network was disrupted.

Deepak Chatap, one of the members of this campaign and practising lawyer said, “Every year due to heavy rainfall, many regions of the district get affected. However, no government officials take serious cognizance of it. So we decided to collect relief material and cash to help the flood-affected families.”

Gadchiroli, one of the Naxal-affected districts in Maharashtra, has been severally affected due to floods. Bodhi Ramteke, student of ILS Law College and member of the campaign who is native of Gadchiroli said, “It took a lot of hard work to collect this relief material and cash to support flood-affected families. The low height of a bridge in the district caused the disaster situation and the government should focus on increasing the height of the bridge,” he added.
