MUMBAI: Anticipating a big victory in the State Assembly polls, Maharashtra BJP was all set for a grand victory celebration at their Nariman Point office.
As counting of votes began on Thursday morning, the Bharatiya Janata Party was quite confident of their consecutive victory and the party was in a celebratory mood with sweets and ‘dhol’ ready.
BJP had ordered 5,000 laddoos and put up a huge screen to telecast the live coverage of the counting at the party headquarters. Orders for garlands were also placed.
The team of drummers were at the corner of Mantralaya and BJP office.
As trends showed BJP crossing 150 seats, as against the 220 expected by the party, the celebratory mood within the party became subdued.
By evening, when the picture was clear that BJP is barely scrapping over 100 seats, the party workers gathered at the office started to leave.
The drummers waited for orders to play but they never came.
Bharatiya Janata Party ex-MP Kirit Somaiyya came to the BJP office and then the celebrations began.
At 4 pm, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis came to the office along with State President Chandrakant Patil, Minister Mahadev Jankar and Vinayak Mete.
Fadnavis addressed the reporters and thanked the citizens for giving the mandate to the party.
After Fadnavis left, the party workers began celebrating and distributed sweets.
