BMC initiative to book parking space online

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to start an online parking facility for motorists travelling to south Mumbai. Now, the motorists can find a parking space online or through mobile app and get the details of the availability of parking in eight parking lots in south Mumbai.

The BMC has identified eight parking lots in south Mumbai, where 485 vehicles can be accommodated.

Many people come to south Mumbai for their official work and on weekends, the area is full of tourists. Hence it is difficult to find a parking for the cars. So the BMC has decided to start an online parking facility.
“In a first phase, the facility will be available at eight parking lots in south Mumbai, three at Crawford Market, three lots at Hutatma Chawk, one each at Kalaghoda, Regal junction and Erros junction. At these parking lots, about 485 vehicles can be parked at a time,” said Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of A ward.

There will be cameras at these parking lots which will keep an eye on the available parking space and send a picture to the website from where the motorists can get information about the availability of parking.

The same information will be available through the app as well. The motorists can book a space for parking as per the availability and they will get the information about availability of parking and the paring lots through a text message on their mobile. The copy of the SMS will be sent to the parking attendant as he can help the motorists in parking.

The motorists can avail the route of the parking lot through GPS.
If the motorists are unable to reach the parking lot at the stipulated time, the parking slot will be cancelled automatically.
