BEST leader is BJP’s puppet: Shiv Sena MLC

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena leader and MLC Anil Parab on Thursday hit back at BEST Workers Union leader Shashank Rao over the issue of the BEST strike. The strike was scripted to continue for a long period and Rao was only a puppet to malign the Shiv Sena, he alleged.

Parab on Thursday levelled allegations against BJP and leader Ashish Shelar and former chief minister Narayan Rane without naming them.

"These leaders were behind the game as Rao and other leaders from the BEST Action Committee said thanks to them for supporting the strike," he said.

"Shiv Sena is always with the BEST employees and in every crisis the party has stood by the workers. In the recent strike, Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, Civic Chief Ajoy Mehta, BEST General Manager Surendra Bagade at the mayor's bungalow, where he tabled a proposal of increment for all employees. Union leader Rao refused the proposal saying he needed time to consider it," Parab said.

"Even after nine days of strike, the BEST workers are not getting much, as the leaders have claimed. Rao announced that the workers will get Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 hike. Actually, they will only receive up to Rs 4,800 hike per month," Parab said.

"It is a clear case of cheating with BEST workers and the workers will come to know in the future that how they were cheated by Rao," Parab said.

When asked about the allegations levelled by Nilesh Rane, ex-MP and Narayan Rane's son against Balasaheb Thackeray, he refused to comment.
