All Major Party Workers Stunned By Political Developments In The State

PUNE:  After Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister early on Saturday, BJP workers celebrated in the city. Shiv Sainiks were shocked; NCP party workers were in a dilemma and Congress workers were confused.

An unexpected twist in the state politics stunned workers from all major parties in the city when the news broke of Fadnavis’ swearing-in as the Chief Minister, along with former NCP senior leader Ajit Pawar his deputy.  NCP workers were confused as they could not guess what was happening.

Later, the situation changed and it became clear that Ajit Pawar crossed over to the BJP and not the NCP.

Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar addressed a joint press conference clarifying their stand on the issue.

City BJP workers gathered in their party office on JM Road. They shouted slogans and congratulated each other. They were holding banners with CM Devendra Fadnavis’ picture. MP Girish Bapat was also present during the celebrations. A party worker, Rajesh Shinde, said, “We are confident that BJP will form the government. We were only waiting for the announcement of its formation. On Saturday morning, it was formed. We are very happy.”

In the Shiv Sena camp, Sainiks were shocked after the development. Speaking to Sakal Times, a Shiv Saink, Nitin Bhujbal, said, “After Congress announcement its support to Shiv Sena and NCP alliance, we felt relaxed and were confident that our party will form the government and chief minister will be Uddhav Thackeray. However, when we watched the news on TV of the formation of BJP government, along with NCP, I was shocked.”

Confused Congress; NCP in dilemma
Congress worker Ajit Rode said, “We are confused. Actually, the Congress was not in picture in the government formation after the assembly polls results were out. The Congress had decided to sit in the opposition. However, the situation changed after the formation of Mahavikas Aghadi. We were happy that Congress would be a part of the government. We were in a mood to celebrate. But when we saw the news of formation of the government by with the help of NCP leader Ajit Pawar, the scenario completely changed.”

NCP party worker Mauli Punde said, “We are loyal to NCP. Some party workers are followers of Ajit Pawar due to his dashing personality whereas some admire NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. However. Sharad Pawar is an idol for all party workers. When Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy CM in the BJP government, we were in a dilemma.”

NCP MLAs Tingre, Tupe with Sharad Pawar
In Pune, NCP has won two seats. The two MLAs are Chetan Tupe (Hadapsar) and Sunil Tingre (Wadgaonsheri). There was a rumour that Tingre was accompanying Ajit Pawar. But he attended NCP meeting in Mumbai and cleared his stand. He supported NCP chief Sharad Pawar. Chetan Tupe’s post on Facebook said he supported Sharad Pawar.
