Nashik: Cabinet Minister of Food and Civil Supply, Consumer Affairs and Guardian Minister of Nashik District Chhagan Bhujbal on Saturday questioned the alleged permission given to Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar for his chopper ride to a private resort. Located at Trimbakeshwar road in Anjaneri, Bhujbal instructed the District Collector to conduct an inquiry in this matter.
"Not a single minister including the Chief Minister of the state has got permission for using a helicopter, but Akshay Kumar is getting VIP treatment from the Nashik city police and administration. I will get this matter investigated," Bhujbal said while addressing a press conference.
Akshay Kumar has been on Nashik district tour four days back to identify a location for his upcoming project of building a Martial Art Academy and Naturopathy centre. The actor had come by helicopter which landed on the helipad at Sapkal Knowledge Hub on Trimbakeshwar road. He had stayed at the Grape County Resort for two days during his trip. Akshay Kumar's photos at the resort and helipad had surfaced a few days back after which it triggered a controversy as many ministers and politically influential leaders have been earlier denied permission for using the helicopter service.
Bhujbal was surprised over the special treatment given to a Bollywood actor in his district where he has a stronghold.
"The VIP treatment given to Akshay Kumar is shocking. The area which he visited is a rural area, while he was escorted by the city police. How did he get permission to enter the resort when it is ordered to remain closed during the lockdown. We will find out who gave permission for his helicopter to land and if any wrongdoing has happened in the resort," Bhujbal said.
Due to the extended lockdown, there have been many restrictions in place in the state. All ministers including the Chief Minister are touring the state and their constituencies by road in their cars.
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ashok Chavan was tested positive for COVID-19 a few days back and he was shifted to Mumbai for treatment. Chavan's family had requested permission to shift him to Mumbai from Nanded through a special flight but they were denied permission. As a result, Chavan had to travel through an ambulance for 12 hours by road and reach Mumbai. On this backdrop, Akshay Kumar's chopper ride and the permission granted to him has raised eyebrows of many.
Bhujbal visited the Thakkar dome where arrangements for 350 beds for COVID patients have been made. Bhujbal said, "Nashik city hospitals are having enough bed capacity as of now, but this new arrangement is made considering future requirements."
