Agri loss due to floods is Rs 2,800 crore: Minister

PUNE: While the divisional commissioner has ordered detailed panchanama of flood-affected persons in Pune division which includes Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Pune and Solapur districts, the administration has started an audit of all structures in these flood-affected areas. 

The authorities on Monday said that apart from the loss of life and property, agriculture sector has suffered a major loss. Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Anil Bonde said the agriculture loss is estimated at Rs 2,800 crore including loss of above Rs 1,000 crore in Sangli. He said the government will be providing all necessary steps to affected farmers and provide necessary crop loans. He said that the flood-affected farmers will have to sign on the panchanamas to avail the benefits.

“About 2.09 lakh hectares of cropland was affected due to floods leading to heavy losses. About 1,895 villages were affected due to floods. The crops which are mostly affected include rice, soybean, bajara, and some vegetables,” added Bonde. He said government will take steps to provide relief to farmers as per their loss.
