73 % Marathi youths search for life partner on their own: Online survey

Pune: A recent study by a matrimonial service found that nearly 73 per cent of the Marathi girls and boys registered on the website search for their life partner on their own, instead of depending on their parents.

The research was conducted by a matrimonial service for Marathi community, MarathiMatrimony, branch of BharatMatrimony. It studied the demographic patterns of over 2.5 lakh users among which the user base comprised 28 per cent women and 72 per cent men.

The study has pointed out that individuals have been increasingly taking marriage decisions into their own hands. This was revealed after 73 per cent of the matrimony profiles were seen created by the individuals themselves. It had only about nine per cent profiles created by parents and the rest created by siblings and others.

Another important trend noticed in the study was that while arranged marriages in India were increasingly done within their own castes, interestingly, 27 per cent women and 28 per cent men were open to looking for a partner from outside their caste.

Commenting on the trend, Matrimony.com Founder and CEO Murugavel Janakiraman said, “Thousands of success stories have been reported on MarathiMatrimony every quarter.”

“We continue to grow our user base amongst the Marathi community, inside India and across the globe,” Janakiraman further said.

Some highlights of the research

The top five cities within Maharashtra that witnessed a maximum number of registrations are Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik and Nagpur. For Maharashtrians living outside the state, the top cities with the highest number of registrations are Bengaluru, Panaji, Belgaum and Hyderabad.

In tune with the mobile and Internet trends, 86 per cent of the entire user base did their life partner search on the mobile.
