Ahmednagar/Pune: In a major accident, five persons were killed while 15 others sustained severe injuries after the speeding bus they were travelling in hit a truck from behind on Monday morning in Ahmednagar district. The condition of three passengers is said to be critical. Police said the incident took place at around 5.30 am at Wadegavhan Phata on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway, around 80 km from Pune.
According to police, the bus was travelling to Pune from Aurangabad. “Investigation has revealed that the accident happened when the speeding bus tried to overtake a vehicle and rammed into the truck. The front portion of the bus was badly damaged. Five persons were killed on the spot. The injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Shirur and Pune,” said Police Inspector Rajendra Bhosale, in-charge of Supa police station in Ahmednagar district.
The accident had led to a traffic jam on the highway and vehicles were in queues for about 5-6 kilometres.
The deceased persons have been identified as Jalna resident Amjad Mohammed Yusuf (52), who was driving the bus, Pradeep Uttam More (45), Zamir Shaikh (12), Altaf Abubakar (40), all residents of Aurangabad district. The identity of one more person, a male aged around 30 years, is yet to be ascertained.
