‘Heatwave-like situation till May 10’

Pune: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Vidarbha will experience heatwave-like situation till May 10 whereas the rest of the State, along with Goa, will experience dry weather. On Sunday, Brahmapuri recorded 10 mm rainfall.

On Sunday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius with clear sky. IMD has forecast that maximum temperature in the city will be around 40 degrees Celsius in the coming week while minimum temperature will be around 23 degrees Celsius with clear sky.

On Sunday, the highest temperature in the State was recorded in Akola at 45.1 degrees Celsius and the lowest temperature was 21.4 degrees Celsius in Osmanabad. The highest temperature over the plains was 45.4 degrees Celsius at Phalodi in west Rajasthan. Thunderstorm was observed at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Chandigarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Kerala and north interior Karnataka. 

IMD also noted that maximum temperatures are very likely to remain in the range of 40 to 44 degrees Celsius over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, interior Maharashtra and over some parts of Telangana, Rayalaseema and interior Odisha till May 9. Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are likely at isolated places over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, east Uttar Pradesh, interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala till May 10, according to IMD.

For May 11 and 12, fairly widespread to widespread rain and thundershowers with isolated heavy rains are likely over northeast India. Further, isolated to scattered rain and thundershowers activity is likely over the western Himalayan region, east India and south peninsula. IMD has forecast that for rest of the country, dry weather is likely.
