Star Wars Day: May the force be with you!

Star Wars Day: May the force be with you!

Star Wars movies are all about friendship, hope and banding together to fight a deadly threat. An invisible force connecting everyone is the central theme of the franchise. Right now, our world too is united by an invisible force to fight the invisible enemy.

For Star Wars fans, May 4, is a day to rejoice as they celebrate Star Wars Day. The celebrations began in late 2012 when Disney acquired Star Wars. Since May 2013, Disney has observed Star Wars Day every May 4 by hosting events themed around the franchise at both Disneyland and Disney World. But right now, all events have been cancelled.

However, the Star Wars universe has been replete with action for the past few months. The conclusion to the Skywalker Saga happened with The Rise of Skywalker last December. Then there was the epic start to The Mandalorian a few months back, which also gave us The Child, the cute Baby Yoda. And for those who are not aware, the final season of The Clone Wars wraps up today on Disney +.

As the world continues to fight corona, Disney has unveiled a wide selection of cloth face masks that celebrate Star Wars. Offered in packs of four in various sizes, Disney’s cloth masks follow FDA recommendations on all non-surgical and non-industrial grade face masks.

All profits up to US$1 million from the sales of these masks will go towards US charity MedShare, and Disney will also be donating a further 1 million face masks to vulnerable children and families across the USA.

Lightsabers have also made their return from a December Fortnite event, in which players were treated to an exclusive story instance for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. After Emperor Palpatine delivered his address to the Fortnite world informing everyone of his resurrection, lightsabers rained down on the battle royale map and allowed players to engage in hand-to-hand melee combat. And now they are back, so players get on board and pull out their lightsabers.

This Star Wars Day, remember to stay home, stay safe, and wash your hands regularly because that is the only way you can counter the dark side and evil forces.

May the force be with you!
