Rishi Kapoor passes away: Tributes pour in

A day after the tragic demise of Irrfan Khan, Bollywood lost another gem. 

Rishi Kapoor, battling cancer, passed away at Mumbai's HN Reliance Hospital. Fans and luminaries across the world paid tributes to the veteran actor.

The 67-year-old actor was admitted on Wednesday night after he developed breathing problems.

Rishi Kapoor's family said in a statement, "Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8.45 am in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukaemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.

"In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way."

The news of Rishi Kapoor’s passing away on Thursday came as a shock to his fans as well as friends in Bollywood. Several actors, filmmakers, politicians, sports stars expressed their grief over his death on social media platforms.

Rishi Kapoor was in New York for more than a year for treatment. After returning to India this year, he was hospitalised in New Delhi in February.

The actor was last seen in Bollywood film The Body with Emraan Hashmi. Rishi Kapoor also recently announced his next project, The Intern, a remake of Hollywood film starring Deepika Padukone.
