Mumbai: A road in city to be renamed after Sushant Singh Rajput?

After month since Sushant Singh Rajput's death by suicide, a family friend of the late actor has sent an appeal to Aaditya Thackeray, Minister of Tourism and Environment in the Maharashtra state cabinet to rename a road in Bandra after the Bollywood star.

This appeal has come close on the heels of the Bihar administration renaming a road in the late actor's hometown as Sushant Singh Rajput Chowk.

Nilotpal Mirnal, the family friend, while speaking to a major news daily said, "His loss is still being mourned, and it is only befitting that the road where he resided be named after him."

After Sushant Singh Rajput's tragic and sudden passing away, the discussion around suicide prevention and mental health issues has gained momentum. While social media has acted as a forum for demanding justice for the late actor with hashtags such as #JusticeForSushantSinghRajput, #BoycottKaranJohar, #SushantInOurHeartsForever and more. Some are also using online platforms to sensitize people towards those who are dealing with mental health issues.

Along with Aaditya Thackeray, Nilotpal Mrinal has also sent the appeal to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. "I first approached Aaditya Thackeray and then Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. They directed me to the officials of the H (West) municipal ward under whose jurisdiction the area falls. I have written to the local civic authorities."

He says that if the administration cannot change the road's name, a garden or an area in Bandra can be named in Sushant's memory, as he resided there for a long time. "Currently, the municipal authorities are busy battling the pandemic. They have assured me they will look into it at the earliest."
