Karan Johar is a ‘bigger victim’ in this context: Ram Gopal Varma

The death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has led to various discussions and arguments on the subject of “nepotism” in the film industry where people have slammed many directors and celebrities for promoting the trend and not letting the right talent coming up.

Amid this issue, director Ram Gopal Verma took to Twitter to speak in favour of it. The Sarkar director, who is known for commenting on various current topics, posted several tweets where he spoke in favour of filmmaker Karan Johar, who has been constantly blamed and condemned by the social media users for the actor’s death by encouraging the practice of nepotism.

In his tweets, he highlighted the fact that most of the people in the industry, including veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan started as an outsider and slowly rose to fame. He added that if Sushant were there with us today, after 15-20 years, he would have also launched his son or daughter in the industry being an insider.

Referring to the people criticizing Johar, Varma tweeted, “Blaming @karanjohar for what happened is ridiculous and just shows lack of understanding of how film industry works ..Even assuming Karan had a problem with Sushant it’s his choice of who he wants to work with, like its any filmmakers choice about who they want to work with.”

He called Karan Johar a bigger sufferer in this context. “Just want to say this to the ignorant social lynch mob that @karanjohar is a bigger victim in this context compared to their ill perceived and suddenly discovered victim Sushant,” he said.

Several news articles were floating on social media which claimed that various production houses and directors were not willing to work with the Sonchiriya actor. Slamming them, Varma wrote, “No matter how many supposedly conspired to drive Sushant out (For what reason I can’t fathom when he can make money for them ) there were umpteen others wanting to work with him. ..But like it was his choice not to do with them, it’s the others choice not to work with him.”

“There’s no such thing as insiders and outsiders and it’s only audience who decide who they like and dont ..Film families however big they are can never have power to influence the audience and also don’t forget that @karanjohar is becos people made him big and not himself,” he added talking in favour of nepotism.

He also called nepotism as the foundation and base of the society and referred to it as love of the family, “WITHOUT NEPOTISM SOCIETY WILL COLLAPSE BECAUSE NEPOTISM(FAMILIAL LOVE ) IS THE FUNDAMENTAL TENET OF A SOCIAL STRUCTURE..Like u shouldn’t love others wife more, u also shouldn’t love others children more,” he further tweeted.

“Nepotism spoken in a negative context is a joke because the entire society is based on only a family loving concept ..Should @iamsrk launch someone unknown instead of Aryan just because someone is more talented (in whose view is the point?),” he added.

Johar uploaded a post on Instagram, blaming himself for the actor’s death and not being beside him during his difficult times, soon after which netizens concluded it as a fake concern showcased by him and accused him of promoting the nepotism squad in Bollywood and not letting outsiders like Sushant to excel in the industry.
