Irrfan Khan: ‘Rishi Kapoor went from being a doll to don’

The screenshot has gone viral. Tributes have poured from across the world. The already COVID-19-hit entertainment world, went poorer. The world lost Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor, two of finest performers from India. It’s known to everyone by now that the two appeared in Nikkhil Advani’s D-Day in 2013.

The two legendary actors worked together in the critically-acclaimed D-Day, directed by Nikkhil Advani, in 2013. Kapoor played an Indian gangster, hiding in Pakistan (his role was based on Dawood Ibrahim), whereas Irrfan played the role of an undercover Intelligence Officer Wali Khan, who effectively nabs him.

In one of his media interactions related to the film, Irrfan had famously remarked about Kapoor, “My cousin is his ultimate fan, though I have watched all his movies. I never thought I had it in me to be a Rishi Kapoor. He is hot liquid.

“He has worked on cultivating his craft so well and he is one of those stars you never have enough of, even if he is doing the same thing, movie after movie. I think that’s what makes his second innings so spectacular. He doesn’t have to be a star anymore, so he is having a blast being an actor.”

In Sakal Times office…

Irrfan, along with co-star Arjun Rampal, had come to the Sakal Times office to promote D-Day. He couldn’t stop himself from praising Kapoor’s transformation from the lover boy image to the ultimate baddie.

Talking about working with Kapoor, Irrfan told us that it was a dream come true and a fantastic experience.

“He is a unique actor. As an audience, you get fatigued after watching an actor for so many years, but with him, that is not the case. I really haven’t understood how he has managed to keep himself so fresh. You could say, he has gone from doll to don,” Irrfan said.

Irrfan’s movie Angrezi Medium was the last Bollywood film to release before the nationwide coronavirus lockdown applied in March. Kapoor was last seen in the 2019 Netflix film, The Body.
