Fujifilm announced the launch of its innovation to their X-series of mirrorless digital cameras, X-T4. The launch which took place virtually on their YouTube channel on May 25, was hosted by Mr Toshihisa Iida, General Manager, Optical Device & Electronic Imaging Products DIV., Fujifilm Corporation, and Mr Haruto Iwata, Managing Director, Fujifilm India Pvt Ltd. Along with them, Mr Arun Babu, General Manager Electronic Imaging and Optical Device, Fujifilm India Pvt Ltd, was also present to moderate the session.

The two-hour event began with an introduction of the product and its features. It went on to an elaborate question-answer round -- 'Rubaroo with X-T4' -- towards the end.

Keeping in mind the coronavirus outbreak, the launch began with Mr Toshihisa Iida, who expressed his condolences over the countless lives lost in the past few months. He went on to talk about India has been a focus market for Fujifilm in the past few months. "Fujifilm X-T4 was born to meet this demand. Its cutting-edge technology for photos and videos was brought on to capture the essence of a story in its true form," he was quoted saying.

Also speaking about the launch, Iwata, the MD of the company, said"At Fujifilm India, we believe in consistent innovation and a continuous growth process, where we break boundaries and redefine the expectations of how a digital camera can perform. And with the newly launched Fujifilm X-T4, we wanted to create something that expands our user's creative limits with its incredible imaging tools, a hybrid camera that uses cutting-edge technology to excel in creating both stills and motion imagery. The retro dials and analogue chic in the outside and the highly advanced packed features in the inside makes the X-T4 a truly compelling combination. Now our consumers can free themselves from compromise and be the image-maker they've always wanted to be."

Fujifilm X-T4 -- The nitty-gritty

Packed with the new IBIS system, X-T4 comes with new shutter unit and a large-capacity battery. What's more, is that it is all housed into a compact and lightweight body, which is the core of the X-Series.

The Fujifilm X-T4 also boasts of a central viewfinder style and has claimed to deliver the world's fastest 15fps burst mode shooting and a high-speed AF performance -- coming up to 0.02 seconds. The ultralight mirror-less camera comes with a 26.1-megapixel BSI X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor along with a high-speed image processing unit known as the X-Processor 4.

Another new function in the X-T4 features the "ETERNA Bleach Bypass," a new Film Simulation mode, that provides hard tonality, low colour saturation and versatile cinematic colour tones and high contrast for storytelling imagery.

It also comes with a DCI 4K/60P video capture with 4:2:2 10-bit (HDMI)/ 4:2:0 10-bit Internal (SD) with up to 400Mbps Bitrate. The X-T4 is also Fujifilm's first camera from the series that is capable of recording a full HD high-speed video at 240P, producing up to 10x real-time slow-motion effect.

The key features

IBIS: The X-T4 is the first to provide an in-body image stabilisation (IBIS). It features a 5-axis 6.5 stop image stabilisation. The unit also assists night photography, or action photography (such as sports), and helps stabilised video recording in situations prone to camera shake. In fact, it is also approximately 30 per cent smaller and 20 per cent lighter than X-H1's IBIS unit.

Shutter Mechanism: The X-T4 is equipped with a new ultra-fast focal plane shutter, which can shoot up to world's fastest, i.e. 15fps, in its burst mode. The shutter unit boasts of double durability, with 300,000 shutter life. Its shutter noise is also approximately 30 per cent quieter compared to the X-T3.

New Battery: Fujifilm X-T4's NP-W235 battery has a large capacity that is 1.5 times larger than that of an NP-W126S battery. It lasts for approximately 500 frames per charge in the normal mode, 600 frames per charge in the economy mode and up to 1,700 frames when two additional batteries are used with the optional battery grip.

Elaborating more about the product, Arun Babu, the GM Electronic Imaging and Optical Device, of the company said, "With the addition of this new beast in our best-in-class range of X-Series mirrorless cameras, we wanted to address the needs of multimedia image-makers with a versatile mirrorless camera that blends advanced stills and video capabilities along with enhanced workflow and assistive functionality. At Fujifilm India, we take pride in providing innovative technology to our customers by creating products that enhance their experience."
