After Doordarshan, ‘Mahabharat’ to air on Colors TV

After winning hearts of viewers on Doordarshan and keeping them entertained during the coronavirus lockdown period, BR Chopra’s Mahabharat will keep the country entertained a little longer.

Pen India Ltd., which holds all the rights of the epic mythological series, confirms that the show will start airing on Colors channel.

A source says, “The telecast has started from May 4 and will go on till June 19. It will air from 7 pm to 9 pm every day, which is prime time. The viewers will get to enjoy it even on Saturdays and Sundays. So Mahabharat becomes a show that will air on TV constantly and is also available on the Pen Bhakti YouTube channel.”

Talking about it, Pen CMD Dr Jayantilal Gada says, “India is a land of multiple cultures, and people feel strongly attached to their mythological beliefs. In the late ‘80s and ‘90s, mythological shows used to rule TV, and they left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the viewers. Hence, when they are being aired again, people are loving going down the memory lane.

“Take BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, for instance. It continues to be timeless because of various traits. It is so close to everyone’s hearts because it has cultural relevance. All the characters on the epic show are very relatable, and everyone feels attached to them. Apart from cultural relevance, Mahabharat is a timeless tale that encompasses a lot of moral lessons for the viewers. It won hearts years ago and continues to rule even now. The show was, is and will be one that never gets dated,” he added.

BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, which ran successfully from 1988 to 1990, was among the top shows on Indian television along with Ramayan during its rerun.

The celebrated show featured Mukesh Khanna as Bhishma, Pankaj Dheer as Karna, Gajendra Chouhan as Yudhishthir, Arjun as Arjun, Roopa Ganguly as Draupadi, Puneet Issar as Duryodhan and Nitish Bharadwaj as Krishna, among others.
