PUNE: After the Coronavirus outbreak, there has been sharp decline in thefts and property-related offences in Pune. However, there has been no change in body offences (which deals with assault cases).

DCP Bachchan Singh of Crime Branch said that as per data of March 1 to 9 and 10 to 17  (10th is cut-off date due to first case of corona), there has been drop in property and theft offences.

“The reduction in house break-in and theft cases is because people are mostly at home. On the other hand, fewer vehicles are parked at public places, hence there is reduction in vehicle thefts,” he added. According to the police, between March 1 and 9, there were 86 property offences, 29 vehicle thefts, and 11 house break-ins, and between March 10-17, the offences were 46, 16 and four respectively.
