PMPML sees 30 pc drop in passengers

“In the last five days, the number of passengers has dropped by 30 per cent. It has hit the income of the transport body. Every day the department generates Rs 1.60 crore, which decreased to 1.25 crore,” said PMPML Traffic Manager Anant Waghmare.

PUNE: The COVID-19 has affected the public transport system with the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) registering 30 per cent drop in number of bus passengers.

As per the government’s advisory, passengers are avoiding traveling by public transport services. 

“In the last five days, the number of passengers has dropped by 30 per cent. It has hit the income of the transport body. Around 11-12 lakh passengers travel by PMPML bus every day. Also, the department generates Rs 1.60 crore, which decreased to 1.25 crore,” said PMPML Traffic Manager Anant Waghmare. 

The PMPML has instructed all 14 depot managers to wash the buses. Drivers and conductors are instructed to use sanitisers often.

DROP OF PASSENGERS AT PUNE AIRPORT
- Pune airport has seen 27 per cent decline in number of passengers in domestic and international flights. Pune airport has only two international flights for Dubai. 
- As per Pune Airport Director Kuldeep Singh, Air India Express flight from Pune to Dubai was cancelled on March 19, 21, 24, 26 and 28, due to low booking.
