PMPML cancels 583 bus trips

PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided to cancel 583 trips of buses in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

The decision was taken as fewer number of passengers were travelling by buses. In the next few days, only 1,000 buses will ply on the road. There are 2,000 buses in the fleet of PMPML.

Out of these, an average 1,500-1,600 buses are plying on the roads. 

“Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd buses will continue to operate during peak hours. In the afternoon, there was no rush on many routes and due to this several trips have been cancelled. It has been planned and will not cause inconvenience to citizens,” said PMPML Joint Managing Director Ajay Charthankar.

Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said 583 trips of PMPML buses have been reduced from the total fleet of 1,714 as a measure to contain the spread of COVID-19. 

“However the reduction is made in the afternoon slot and it will not impact the peak hour rush of commuters,” added Mhaisekar.
