PUNE: Many people have been refraining from accepting parcels that they had ordered from e-commerce websites due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) scare in the city.

“Many people are not accepting their parcels even though they have paid for it online. They are saying they will order the items again later,” said an Amazon delivery person, adding that all the delivery boys have been using masks and sanitisers to be safe from the virus even though the masks are suffocating during the daytime. Media professional Meghana Dekhane, who accepted a couple of parcels on Sunday, said that as a precaution after opening the parcel and disposing of its packaging, she washed her hands.

Some housing societies are also taking measures by preventing delivery partners from entering their premises.

“A notice has been put up in our society premises that no parcel delivery person would be allowed to go directly into the houses. The delivery person would have to give the parcel to the security guards at the gate. We then have to take the parcel by covering it properly,” said a resident of a housing society in Uttam Nagar (NDA Road).
