COVID-19 hotspots: 50 new areas in Pune identified as containment zones; total count rises to 109

The COVID-19 cases in Pune have been rising relentlessly with the district witnessing fresh cases along with fatality rates every day. After the lockdown restrictions were eased down, the city has witnessed a single-day spike in cases recording the maximum number of deaths and COVID-19 positive patients. Amid the surge in cases, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has spotted 50 areas in the city as the latest COVID-19 red zones which have recorded some fresh cases of the deadly infection. Following this, the total number of containment zones in Pune has increased to 109.

According to the Indian Express report, the municipal commissioners of ward offices have been sanctioned by the civic body to locate various areas, buildings, residential complexes which have recorded the maximum number of coronavirus positive cases both inside and outside of COVID-19 hotspots and seal them properly to ensure safety among the public and combat the spread of the contagious virus.

Pune Municipal Commissioner, Shekhar Gaikwad told Indian Express that the city has identified some fresh cases which had led to the rise in the containment zones and as a result, there are around 109 COVID-19 hotspots across Pune. The list that comprises all the containment zones in the city based on the spread of the deadly COVID-19 infection has been recently updated to keep people informed about the increase in cases and the total number of hotspots. "This will continue till further orders," Gaikwad said. He also mentioned that the updated list has around 50 COVID-19 hotspots/containment zones along with 24 other 'modified' zones.
