Coronavirus Pune: Social distancing goes for a toss as Devendra Phadnavis visits party members in hospital

Pimpri: The Maharashtra State's former Chief Minister and Maharashtra State opposition party leader Devendra Fadnavis, visited Pune's twin city in Pimpri-Chinchwad area, and municipal corporation limits to check the status of COVID-19 patients and the measures taken by the local bodies.

On Tuesday, around 1 pm Fadnavis visited Pimpri-Chinchwad based Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital (YCMC) to visit his party members. While at the hospital, huge masses followed him disregarding the social distancing guideline.  

During the visit, he met with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) commissioner Shravan Hardikar along with Mayor Usha Dhore, MLA Laxman Jagtap and BJP's PCMC president and MLA Mahesh Landge and others.

YCMC hospital is currently exclusively run for COVID-19 patients. Since noon on Tuesday, various political leader and supports of BJP came at the hospital to greet Fadnavis.

Speaking to the media Fadnavis said, "after Unlock 1.0 as the restrictions of lockdown have eased. Due to this, it seems like the COVID-19 patients are increasing. Hence there has been a demand for an increase in the lockdown to curb the virus.  But at present, considering the current scenario, there is no need to increase lockdown.  But surely, awareness needs to be created on a few precautionary measure and government regulations like wearing a mask, hand wash and use of sanitizer."

"Apart from increasing the lockdown, it's time to be proactive think about how we should together face such pandemic and curb the virus," he added.
