Coronavirus Pune: Police Bharosa Cell provides essential services to senior citizens

Pune: Due to the coronavirus lockdown, many people especially the senior citizens, had faced difficulties in procuring essential commodities and medicines. The Bharosa Cell of Pune City Police Crime Branch stepped in to help the elderly persons.

According to police records, between March 16 and April 10, police got calls from senior citizens who needed medicines, grocery besides seeking help in going to hospital and banks. Some sought help allow movement of their caretakers. Due to lockdown, there is a restriction on movement of people and vehicles except those engaged in providing essential services, said Police Inspector Vaishali Chandgude from the Bharosa Cell.

DCP (crime) Bachchan Singh said that with the help of 190 senior citizens forums in different parts of the city, police are in contact with the elderly persons. The cops have also joined hands with various social organisations to provide foodgrains, water and medicines to about 3500 senior citizens every day.
