Coronavirus Pune: Five more killed in corona battle

Pune: Pune city has reported five more deaths on Wednesday taking the total toll due to coronavirus to 43. With 79 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the total number of positive cases in Pune district reached 427.

The first deceased, 38-year-old man died late on April 14. The patient died at Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) and had complaints of heart ailments. A 73-year-old man who had acute kidney injury died on Wednesday.

Another deceased was a 34-year-old man. Along with COVID-19, he also had myocarditis, multi-organ dysfunction. The fourth victim was a 63-year-old man with diabetes, hypertension and myocarditis who died on Wednesday.

The fifth victim was a 49-year-old male with complaints of diabetes and aspiration pneumonia. He died at SGH.

Three nurses test positive at Sassoon
Three nurses at SGH tested positive late on Tuesday night. The hospital officials are tracing their contacts. Dean of SGH Dr Ajay Chandanwale said that these three nursing staffs have no other illnesses. 

“They have been isolated in the COVID-19 wards, and we have also home isolated their family members,” said Chandanwale.

No flu medicines without prescription
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a notification to medical retailers not to issue medicines of cough and flu without a prescription as the person may be a COVID-19 patient or a carrier. The patients are advised to visit the nearest hospital for further check-up.

Maharashtra struggles
Meanwhile, the State's struggle with COVID-19 continues. There positive cases near the 3,000-mark with over 70 per cent of patients under the age of 50. The total cases in India are nearing the 12,000-mark with over 400 deaths. The global infected tally has crossed two million with over 1.29 lakh fatalities.
