Coronavirus Pune: City sees 72 new cases; 5 deaths

Pune:  The city continues to be one of the worst-hit regions due to coronavirus in India. As per Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) authorities, on Sunday, 72 patients tested positive, taking the city total to 1,139. The city also witnessed five more deaths on Sunday, taking the fatality toll to 72 in the city. On a brighter side, six patients from PMC have recovered, scaling the discharged number to 165.

At the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), one patient has tested positive on Sunday taking the region's toll to 85.

So far, four people have died at PCMC with no new deaths recorded on Sunday. Moreover, 28 patients till date have recovered and discharged from PCMC.

Pune deaths on Sunday: A 51-year-old man died of COVID-19 complications at a private hospital in Pune city on Saturday. His swab samples tested positive on Sunday. A 77-year-old male died at a private hospital on Sunday. He had hypertension. The day witnessed three deaths at Sassoon General Hospital (SGH). 

A 66-year-old male, admitted at SGH in Pune on April 24 died due to complications late on Saturday. His swab report came COVID-19 positive the same night. Another 65-year-old male died due to complications of COVID-19 on Sunday afternoon. He was a chronic alcoholic.

A 40-year-old man died at 3.40 pm. He had respiratory failure and acute kidney disease.

Pune Division; As on Sunday, Pune division has reported 1,363 cases of COVID-19 as per the authorities. One hundred sixty-three new cases have increased since Saturday evening. Out of these, 213 patients have been so far recovered and discharged. And 1,066 patients are still active across the division.

Pune divisional commissioner, Dr Deepak Mhaisekar, said that there has been 84 deaths in the division so far.

"Whereas 46 patients are critical, and the rest are in isolation. With 136 new cases on Sunday, there are 1,230 positive patients in Pune district. Seventy-seven deaths are reported in the Pune district," said Mhaisekar.

He further added Satara district has 33 positive patients and two have died so far.

"There are 61 patients in Solapur district, and five have died so far. There are 29 positive patients at Sangli and one death so far. And Kolhapur district has ten positive patients," said Mhaisekar.

He further added that till Sunday, there have been over 14,838 tests done across the Pune division. Out of these 12,614 test results have come negative, and 806 are awaited.

  • 440 new cases in Maharashtra on Sunday. State tally now 8,068.
  • 19 deaths among COVID-19 patients on Sunday, taking the State's toll to 342.
