Coronavirus Pune: 10 cases detected in PCB

Pune: As many as ten positive cases of COVID-19 were detected at Ghorpardi area which comes under the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) which was declared as containment zone. Interestingly, there was no new patient from the area in the last 12 days. However, ten positive cases have been reported so far, in which one had died.

8 patients under treatment
“There were ten positive cases that were reported from here. However, one person died while another one was discharged when the person was fully recovered. There are still eight patients under treatment at Symbiosis and CTS in Southern Command,” said Amit Kumar, PCB CEO.

Area sealed
However, almost a week ago, after a 77-year-old woman from Ghorpadi village was found positive for COVID-19 at Sassoon General Hospital, the board had sealed the area and barricading was done. The woman’s daughter and husband had returned from Dubai. The woman went to special OPD at Sassoon General Hospital, where her swab samples tested positive for COVID-19. 

“After the patient was found positive, the area was sealed. But in the last 12 days, there was no more positive case found in the area. However, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) area has been sealed by the army,” said Kumar.

Quarantine facility created
On March 5, the PCB had received Rs 2.26 crore to fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The board has received the amount by District Collector Pune. The board had already set up 50 bedded isolation wards at cantonment general hospital.

As many as 45 patients were admitted at SVP Cantonment General hospital. The board has created a 70 bedded isolation ward, around 20 bedded ICU tender action in hand, 70 bedded quarantine facility being created.

On March 8, the board had installed a disinfectant tunnel in the Cantt General Hospital premises. The disinfectant tunnel has been constructed by the ITI run by PCB at Sholapur Bazar. The board is preparing five more such units, to be placed at various sites within limits.
