Coronavirus lockdown: How Pune Railway division is leading the way

Pune: The Pune Railway Division is all ready to implement measures to deal with the coronavirus outbreak. The goods trains are running throughout the day since lockdown was declared. The six stations that come under the division include Baramati, Loni, Miraj, Saswad Road, Satara and Gurumarket Kolhapur were playing important roles in the current situation.

Working 24x7
These six stations are working 24x7 to load and unload the parcels including foodgrains, sugar, cement, petroleum products and fertilisers so that people can get items on time. 

Manoj Jhawar, the Public Relation Officer of the division, said, “It is being done as freight train or parcel special train is running without any hindrance. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and Additional DRM are constantly reviewing the situation and taking the decision accordingly.”

According to officials, fertilisers are being unloaded at Baramati, Saswad Road, Miraj and Gurumarket. On a single day, 97 wagons of fertilisers were unloaded at these stations. As many as 32 wagons of the Hindustan Petroleum Products also unloaded at Loni. Similarly, 79 wagons of sugar and ballast are loaded from Gurumarket and Miraj, respectively.

Safety measures followed
Apart from this, medicines were loaded in four parcel trains, i.e. 20 cartons to Nagpur weighing 249 kg, one packet of / kg of carton loaded in train for Secunderabad, five packets of 115 kg loaded Chennai and 36 packages of 878 kgs loaded from Miraj.

“To load and unload the parcel on good trains, hundreds of daily wages workers work. All the safety measures as prescribed were meticulously followed with utmost importance given to the safety of daily wages and employees. The safe distance was maintained among them from the beginning until the completion of the activities, and the safety masks were also used,” said Jhawar.

Jhawar said that to the smooth running of the parcel and good trains loco pilots, guards, pointsmen, station manager, diesel shed staff, railroad repair staff, signal and telecommunication staff, medical department, commercial and operating department electrical, mechanical, stores, personal department and employees of all departments including RPF are working hand-in-hand to provide the services during the difficult times.

Pune Division tops in preparing masks
Central Railways is producing essential items like masks and sanitiser in-house, which can be utilised by health care workers and railway staff deployed on essential duty. 

Pune Division tops with 33,435 in preparing masks and Mumbai division tops with 1,685 litres of hand sanitiser. In all CR has made 1,25,543 masks and 7,118 litres of hand sanitiser.

Mumbai Division - 23,672 masks and 1,685 litres of sanitiser

Nagpur Division - 23,672 masks and 1,383 litres of sanitiser

Solapur Division - 10,250 and 500 litres of sanitiser

Pune Division - 33,435 masks and 1,110 litres of sanitiser

Bhusaval Division - 24,000 masks and 840 litres of sanitiser
