All shops to remain closed till tomorrow

PUNE: Pune Vyapari Mahasangh has decided to close all shops till Thursday, owing to coronavirus epidemic. However, grocery and medical shops will remain open.

“This is an extremely crucial week as the disease has entered the third week and to control it from spreading, this step has been taken. It is our moral duty to safegaurd the people of the city and our salespersons’ health. Therefore, we have decided to close all shops except groceries and medicines till March 19, Thursday. However, further decision will be taken considering the situation,” said Fatehchand Ranka, President of Pune Vyapari Mahasangh and Poona Saraf Association.

He further said, “It is going to affect the business as there are around 35,000 shops in the city but human life is of foremost importance. Hence, we need to make sure that shops remain closed so that people won’t come and also, there are around 80,000 salespersons working in these shops and we have to think about them.”
