Images more powerful than text, says Facebook MDM

Pune: Market Development Manager (MDM), Facebook, Asia Pacific region Ramesh Gopalkrishna highlighted that images are more powerful than text messages and hence, there is a need for organisations to improve communication strategies.

Gopalkrishna was speaking at the 12th conclave of the Public Relations Council of India in Pune Camp on Friday. The conclave was organised for industry leaders working in public relations and speakers highlighted the need for transformation.
Speaking about power of images, Gopalkrishna said that millions of videos are uploaded on Facebook daily and the same are viewed several times by people. “Images register faster than text and hence, images rule over text messages. What people are doing on Facebook is sharing pictures and videos,” added Gopalkrishna.

The MDM said that people lose around three hours in checking their mails and most of the time is utilised in deleting emails and hence, there is need to evolve communication strategies for people. Speaking on transformation at Facebook, Gopalkrishna said, “Earlier if a CEO wanted to speak to his employees it would take a large setup and now all he has to do is go live on Facebook. We introduced a ‘safety check’ feature in Facebook in which people can update their status if they are in middle of a calamity like floods. This tells us the need to innovate continuously.”

Gopalkrishna said that an average person checks his phone around 2,600 times in a day. “When we talk about attention span of individuals, it has reduced from 12 seconds to 2.3 seconds and hence, we need to convey messages in that short span of time,” added Gopalkrishna.
