Belden inaugurates manufacturing facility in Chakan

Pune: Following a 65 per cent year-on-year growth consecutively for last three years, Belden Inc, a global leader in signal transmission and security solutions for mission-critical application in enterprise and industrial markets, on Thursday, inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan near Pune. Spread over 24,000 square metres, the total investment in the facility is Rs 250 crore. 

The global leader aims to provide customers in the region, who are investing in increasingly sophisticated automation, with a single-point solution for mission-critical signal transmission and management requirements.

Speaking about the new centre, Ashish Chand, Managing Director of Asia Pacific Belden Inc, said, “In India there is growth in industrial, broadcast and enterprise market, which makes it unique for us to expand in the country.” 

Chand said that Belden has over 30,000 products, and in first phase, the Chakan manufacturing plant will be able to manufacture about ten per cent these products. “The new centre is planned keeping the demands of Indian market in mind. As better infrastructure is developing in the country, there is a high demand of our products,” added Chand.

Speaking about the products of Belden, Chand said, “With this mega project, Belden seeks to address the fast evolving needs of Indian customers for mission critical applications in the transportation including metro, energy, smart buildings, process automation, factory automation and broadcast markets. Key products that will be manufactured in the new plant include low voltage cables for high-end applications, connectivity and assemblies for data transmission, and ethernet switches, routers and firewalls for industrial and building automation. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will also allow us to serve other export geographies including the US, Middle East, South East Asia and China.” 

Speaking about the market segment driving the demand, Chand said that public sector has been contributing to be about 60 per cent of the demand and he expects the same will continue in Indian market.

Speaking on the quality products delivered by Belden, Chand said that the products are high on quality. “Many of our switches can work in extreme conditions and can work for over 100 years. Indian market is maturing and people are demanding quality products. While the current market share is about 2.5 to 3 per cent, we are eyeing 8 to 10 per cent in coming future. The size of market in high-end products is about Rs 6,500 crore, which is growing by 10 to 12 per cent,” added Chand. Speaking on some automated solutions by Belden for metro, Chand said,

“There are five solutions we are expert at which includes On board hi speed Wi-fi with millisecond handover, Integrated supervision control system, which tracks sequencing of trains, signalling system, automated entry system and passenger information system.”
