Baaj E-rickshaws to be launched on I-Day

Pune: Baaj E-rickshaw, a product of Bajoria E-motors of Nagpur, has come up with the new age adaption of the classic hand pulled cycle rickshaw. It is an electrically powered vehicle, which covers approximately 100 km once charged.

It can be used for both public and private purposes, with no contribution to noise and air pollution.

These E-rickshaws are available at half the cost of the normal rickshaws. These E-rickshaws will replace the old six seater rickshaws running on the outskirts of Pune.

Amit Ghogare, Chief Executive Officer of Varad Motors in Baner, the distributor of BaaJ E-rickshaw said, “The tentative price of E-rickshaw is Rs 1.4 lakh, which is half the amount of normal rickshaws. There are four batteries, which consume four units of electricity, and it can be charged by a normal plug point, it takes around 7 to 8 hours to charge.”

There are two types of E-rickshaws, including loader and passenger. Both these types will be launched on August 15 at a ‘Pollution free rally, which will be conducted from Baner to Sus Road. Cities like Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Nagpur already have the concept of E-rickshaws. “We have made the RTO registrations a week before and it will be cleared in coming days. After getting the RTO permission, we will approach the Pune Municipal Corporation.”

The RTO has given the permission to run the E-rickshaws on road without a meter, as the application is still in process, so the driver can charge basic amount to the commuters.

Suresh Bajoria, Managing Director of Bajoria E-motors, Nagpur, said, “The rickshaw has the capacity to take the load of 400 kg for both loader and passenger. These rickshaws can occupy only four passengers plus the driver. It could also run on elevated roads, same like normal rickshaws, only if there is no overload of people or material in it.”
